Beverly was in town for Christmas and she took Chris and Grace to see the windows at David Jones and ride the carousel. Everyone had a wonderful time!

It was time to return decades of hospitality to our Sydney family. 24 people in our blank-walled cottage in Cammeray? Clearly a large canvas was called for, and fast! Chris started working about a week before the big day on a view of Green Lake. By lunchtime on Christmas Day it looked like it had always been there.

But I'm getting ahead of myself.... Grandma came over to help us set up the tables in the morning. If it looks bright, it was. The forecast was for "a scorcher" and by 10:00 am it was already 30 degrees C (high 80s F).

The guests arrived at noon, and dark glasses were worn inside the house. A visitor from Germany actually asked me for some sun screen after having stood too long under the skylight!

By about 2pm a little shade had come over the tables, and although it was 37 C (100 F) on the ground a hearty Christmas meal was had by all.

Ahhh... Peace and quiet at last!

The next day my mate Craig B and his son joined us for a picnic overlooking the start of the Sydney to Hobart race.
